the end, the black hole, the beginning

my last days in berlin

and my first days back to italy

well, the feeling is not really the same -a little less nature and a little more clubbing- but gosh, i'm so happy to hang out with my old friends again!

dripping

i want to tie and dye!
actually i want to dye only (glad i'm writing instead of talking out lout, otherwise i would have put my flatmates in a worry...).
i don't like those terribly-too-boho patterns featuring semi-mystical sci-fi visions of floating circles and blocks of colours. what really makes my heart beat faster is the watery version of tie dye that is lately hitting both the blogosphere and a considerable amount of online shops. those striking canvas in which colours are melting one in another.
less than a week ago, trust fun put on sale a limited edition of huge silk scarves, rigorously handpainted, that i would gladly possess...

another couple of nice examples of what i am talking about are here and here to be found.

i am young and i'm alive

i promised this post to alice pleasance of "the cupcake diary".
we share this passion for iris apfel and her distinctive round glasses that she pairs with any outfit she puts together.

a couple of days ago alice finally bought a pair of miu miu black round shades for her own, she wrote a post about it, and wow, she looks damn convincing in them.
i own a pair of round shades too. i found them as always in a flea market, in march or something. i never dare to wear them tho, 'cause i really think they make me look pretty dumb and excessive.

i thought about selling them, since they're still a designer item and in pretty good conditions, but at the end i decided to keep them. to keep my iris-apfel-dream alive.
let's say i will conserve them for when i will be -old-, so that they will cheer up a more understated style.

go nineties the way you want

i've been thinking a lot about dr.martens lately. the whole issue makes me laugh. it's so funny when something that you've already lived become trendy once again, after a decade. it's like a massive deja-vu. now i'm officially old. like my grandma talking about contemporary fifties style. oh gosh. i mean, i was already alive in the eighties too, but i was a child so obviously i wasn't wearing those 'jem and the holograms' outfits. i did it when i was 18, let's say in 2002.
but i remember myself buying my first pair of doc martins...it was 1995 and i was freaking 12. they were bright red fake crocodile docs. one year later i bought a second pair, yellow. i loved to hang around with my left foot in the yellow boot and the right in the red one.
so yeah, i don't know if i'm -psychologically- ready to invest in a new pair. plus i remember they were making my feet bleed. plus i hate to spend money on something i'm going to see EVERYWHERE. like most of h&m stuff or this kind of seasonal supertrends.
at the same time, i kind of love this nineties vibe i can smell in the air, alice dellal being its ambassador.
when i went to the dirtiest and cheapest flea market around here, last sunday, my heart skipped a beat when i found these on my way. for three stupid euros.

in any way, my old two pairs of docs are waiting for me at my parents' house. i will probably try to dye them black. even if i guess they will still make my feet bleed.
but i won't buy a new pair. ever.
mmm, unless i will bump into these...

la principessa e la regina

i didn't mean to write a post today - i finally moved to the new room, but all my belongings are still spread all over the floor and on every possible surface. and i'm tiiiiired. it's too damn hot around here lately. you can barely move a muscle without sweating. ew.
i do spend anyway at least one hour every day wandering through the many blogs i love, might the world collapse.
there is really a huge amount of blogs i follow every given day, and i feel genuinely attached to each one of them. but not all of them match necessarily my personal and specific taste in terms of "what i like myself to wear".
well, i should also mention that sometimes i smell a pinch of schizophrenia when it comes to stick to a style...i can go deeply black and edgy one day, and flowery and naive the one after, still my taste is pretty clear (ehm, at least to me).
there's a girl, though, who seems to have all the things i want (and i want every single piece i've seen on her), and also to mix them as i would (i mean, if i were as fit as her, and if i weren't -usually- totally broke).
please, a standing ovation for the beautiful queen michelle of "kingdom of style".

aren't these inspiring photos, other than inspiring outfits?
when i saw her today's outfit i just felt like i had to share this joy with the world.
(sorry queen for stupid me cropping and resizing your amazing -editorial- pictures due to stupid displaying issues)

brainstorming

so, here we are, i'm busy with the preparatives for my last moving in berlin: from the first of june and for my last month here, i will rent a room in my friends'place.
and i'm happy and excited! i really love them, the most lovely people ever. a sweet couple with a sweet white tiny dog. the room is really cozy, and in the yard there's a cute little garden with a lot of flowers, and a bench and a table to sit and chill. and finally i will have someone who will help me in any moment to take my outfit pictures! and finally i'll be living in a home full of light! and anyway i am pretty over with living by myself and all alone.
today's also the first very warm day in berlin, and you can already smell the scent of june in the air.

this morning i found a nice surprise at the cherry blossom girl: alix posted some pictures of her own closet! i don't know if i should consider myself a stalker, but i'm aware i looove to have a peek inside people's everyday life (people that i admire, of course), and specially when it comes to their wardrobe...so i saved a couple of her pictures in my 'inspiration folder'.

we all have an 'inspiration folder' full of stunning images, don't we?
so i thought about this little game: i'm going to post 5 images from that folder, here to share with you, and i invite you all to do the same, here as a comment or on your own blog. have fun and let me know!

1- home decor inspiration (not sure, but i guess this one came to me via the amazing a cup of joe)

2- love the colours of this recent picture by sarah moon, one of my favourite photographers ever

3- lou doillon (nothing else to say...)

4- crafted vegetable beauties by the lovely sian keegan, who runs a shop on etsy (and who prepared for the talented camilla engman a soft copy of her dog)

5- this

i want this golden "art of matter" skirt to be my next DIY project, if i will ever find the right fabric.

and the eagles fly with the dove

a nice gift from a sweet friend.

rhubarb jam

cloudy day today. perfect weather to brave another of my culinary projects: the rhubarb jam. actually, the project was the jam itself, since i've inherited a 500grams jellifying sugar. then i discovered the rhubarb. in my tiny brain the rhubarb was just an unidentified root to make wasabi. after the, let's say, THIRD time i caught myself in front of a grocery stand at the turkish market thinking "gosh! sooo weird that red celery...", i noticed a placard: "rhubarb"(yeah, ok, obviously that's a lie. it said "rhabarber", since i live in germany). the fact is that we don't have that thing in italy. before the sushi-mania, i've heard the word "rabarbaro" only when i was a child, and my grandma was addicted to rhubarb flavoured candies to digest. unfortunately, their wrapping paper didn't show the aforementioned vegetable, but a chinese pagoda.

tell me on a sunday, please

i've been disgusted by sundays all my life long, until i came to berlin. sundays in berlin are always so special. i'm planning to post a report of a typical (at least for me) berlinese sunday before moving back to italy. expect it for the first sunny sunday from now on.
in the meantime, this is the "sunny sunday" outfit i wore yesterday:

top: h&m
zip shirt: public beware
shorts: zambon
shoes:
hussein chalayan
necklaces: arena and secondhand
armband:
topshop

leaving is seeing from a different perspective

sometimes some things are just meant to be.
after the last post i wrote, i suddenly started to experience problems logging in my blog. i couldn't access my homepage, nor changing my password. it was as it decided to cut me off.
at that same time, i was asked to think about the direction my life was taking, and to take some heavy decisions.
so i just let it go. and i really don't need the help of a shrink to understand why. the fact is that i decided to leave berlin. after one year and a bunch of months. well, ok, it has been my decision, but in a way i've been kind of forced by the circumstances. i discovered that collecting some working experience in my field might be easier and nicer somewhere else. that this is not "the right place", even if it happened to be the place in which i've finally felt home.
i opened this blog to celebrate my beautiful everyday life and that optimistic feeling i was experiencing just a month ago. it was the symbol of my relationship with this city. then it suddenly became the symbol of all the fabulous things i was gonna leave behind.
until this morning, when, checking my email, i found the notification of a comment left by fenke of très plus cool on an empty post named "migraine and gold" that i haven't posted and that how it happened to be there, i don't have a clue about. but through the direct link in that email, i managed to take possess of my blog again. and i'm strongly willing to.
will it be indecorous if i will start posting from my boring hometown, in less more than one month?
welcome back on board.

pasta pesto e patate

i cooked it yesterday hoping for a picnic today...but the day has been neither warm nor sunny. it ended up being my dinner.

vintage lingerie

as you may know, a lot of fashion bloggers are into vintage underwear. well, i am definitely among them! today i took further my collection of 1 euro-thrifted-items; i bought a not so exclusive '80s triumph suspender belt.

it's in a neutral nuance of pink, like all of my other favourite pieces...
i got these granny panties in a really dirty flea market in milan:

this two-pieces is not actually vintage, i bought it a couple of years ago in a cheap italian high street shop -tezenis- selling underwear and pajamas:

these camiknickers were my mom's, from the '80s, once again:

hope i will find the time tomorrow to go buying a pair of stockings in a matching colour from h&m.

fair exchange

today i went to the charity shop where a couple of days ago i bought some grandpa's underpants, ties and shorts for the fashion shooting i've been styling yesterday. i wanted to give back that stuff and grab something for me instead. that's what i picked up:

it doesn't say anything seen like that, hanging without life. but i'll manage to create an outfit around it soon! i haven't found anything summery tho. but i remember last year i've been wearing jumpers more or less all summer long, at night.

i'll do it myself

i forgot to mention that on sunday i found also a cheap big size '80s dress, that i bought for 1 euro as well, cause i immediately fell in love with its fabric and pattern. at first i thought to make a sort of a fifties bustier out of it, with a huge ruche all around the waist line. but since my sewing skills are not so advanced, i changed my mind to something easier. so i put my idea into a plate:

a couple of hours later, checking out style bubble, i bumped into this:

!!!
anyway, susie went to the press presentation of the next fall topshop collection, and she posted an amazing report. i definitely have to become rich before the end of the summer, having also in mind the launching of h&m/comme des garçons collaboration in november.

that's me

i spent the last few hours to find out how to switch to "self portrait mode"on my camera just to realize after the first shoot how tricky to take a good photo is, when you actually don't look at it before it's done. and the only empty spot suitable for an outfit pic turned out to be the less bright corner in my whole apt. i'll maybe try different options next time. but thanx to photoshop you can at least understand what i am wearing.

shoes: topshop
top: topshop
jeans: cheap monday
watch: casio
golden chain: second hand

unfortunately it's still too cold outside to wear open shoes without socks. such a pity. but i really couldn't wait! these shoes are so ugly and '90s that become a real statement, i got them for free at topshop last summer when i bought a pair of golden sandals.

that shade of blue

so, yesterday was a saturday fleamarkets hunting, today has been a sunday one.
i got these earrings for 1 euro, and when i picked them up from the fabric they were lying on, the girl who was selling them started laughing: they turned out to be exactly the same colour as the nailpolish i am wearing these days.

i am really glad, cause huge ethnic-looking earrings like these are something i definitely wanted to get before the beginning of the "warm season".

picked and chosen

berlin is bloody full of fleamarkets, going on specially during the weekends. some of them take place on saturdays, the most on sundays. a couple of preliminary remarks: first of all, lately i'm totally and desperately broke. that means that right now i have at my disposal more or less 20 euros, untill the end of the month. second consideration: not so many years ago i remember myself going to fleamarkets and coming back home with at least three bags full of shitty clothes and stuff in general; lately my taste has become a little snobbier. i still love to spend hours looking for the perfect old cape among tons of rags, or a nice something to turn into something else, but i simply do not wanna buy ALL the seen-everywhere 80s kind of garments and so on. i know you know what i mean. anyway, today i ended up with only a golden pendant and a lace evening scarf.

i was looking for a nice way to knot the scarf around my neck but i'm not satisfied yet. but i really like it anyway. and i soooooo love the tiny aircraft!
